Investments will be made through low-interest loans to community development financial institutions (CDFIs) and eligible housing projects that support the creation and preservation of affordable housing.

“Grantmaking has been our primary tool for investing in the Triangle for the last 40 years, and it will continue to be central to our work,” said Lori O’Keefe, President and CEO of the Foundation. “The Triangle Impact Fund adds a new tool that allows philanthropy to support innovation, take smart risks, and help fill gaps that public and private funding alone cannot address.”

Unlike traditional grants, impact investments are repaid and recycled back into the community over time. The organization will prioritize capital preservation while targeting a modest 1–2 percent net return, allowing charitable dollars to continue supporting community benefit.

The fund builds on the Foundation’s more than 40 years of work alongside donors and nonprofits. The organization recently surpassed $500 million in grantmaking to nonprofits, most of which are based in or serve the Triangle region.

The Foundation is finalizing an invitation-only request for the proposals process for nonprofit and for-profit housing developers, community impact partners, CDFIs and local governments.

About Triangle Community Foundation

Triangle Community Foundation manages over $300M in assets and works to build a brighter future for everyone in the Triangle region of North Carolina.
