\nThe RIBF\u2019s RNG is classified as carbon-negative because the facility captures methane that would otherwise be released through the decomposition of organic waste in landfill. By diverting and processing this waste, Anaergia\u2019s RIBF can prevent more than 40,000 metric tonnes of CO2-equivalent greenhouse gas emissions per year.<\/p>
\nLocated adjacent to Rhode Island\u2019s central landfill in Johnston, the RIBF is the largest anaerobic digester in New England, designed to divert more than 100,000 tons of organic waste per year from landfills. The facility converts food scraps and other organic wastes into RNG, recycled water, and nutrient-rich solid residuals that are used to enrich soils and reduce reliance on synthetic fertilizers.<\/p>
