<\/a><\/a>\n\u201cWe know that we live in serious times because the Declaration of Independence itself is controversial,\u201d Dr. Arnn said. \u201cIts meaning is contested or repudiated, and its authors are condemned. This very meeting is criticized as an attempt to turn America into a Christian nation. The Declaration says that under the laws of nature and nature\u2019s God, no human being may rule another without his consent.\u201d<\/p>
\nDr. Arnn said that through prayer and by remembering the principles behind Lincoln\u2019s words, the nation can unite again in civil friendship.<\/p>
\n\u201cWe will know that our divisions are healing when we remember our purpose and take responsibility together. The solution is not to shout at each other. It is to forget about ourselves and study again the things that can guide us,\u201d Dr. Arnn said. \u201cLet us pray about our divisions today. Let us remember our suffering, remember its meaning, and rekindle our friendship.\u201d<\/p>
\nThe event anticipated the 250th anniversary of the United States with a national day of prayer, praise, and thanksgiving. Thousands gathered on the National Mall to give thanks for God\u2019s Providence, ask for his guidance, and rededicate America as one nation under God.<\/p>
\nFollowing Dr. Arnn\u2019s remarks, the chamber choir performed \u201cGod Be in My Head,\u201d \u201cAmerica the Beautiful,\u201d and \u201cThe Battle Hymn of the Republic.\u201d<\/p>
\n\u201cIt was exciting for our choir students to be a part of something this big and this historic,\u201d said Professor of Music James A Holleman, director of orchestras and choirs. \u201cIt\u2019s a memory they\u2019ll share for the rest of their lives \u2014 as choir members, as Hillsdale students, and as Americans.\u201d<\/p>
\nThe chamber choir also performed Moses Hogan\u2019s \u201cHear My Prayer\u201d following Dr. Ben Carson\u2019s remarks and \u201cThe Lord Bless You and Keep You\u201d after remarks from Bishop Robert Barron.<\/p>
\nOther speakers included Speaker Mike Johnson, Secretary Marco Rubio, Secretary Pete Hegseth, Franklin Graham, and Eric Metaxas.<\/p>
\nA recording of a poem<\/a> from Matthew Mehan\u2019s forthcoming book<\/a> \u201cThe American Book of Fables\u201d was played during the program.
