ComEd Marks $350 Million in Distributed Generation Rebates with Streamwood Park District Solar Installation

Village of Streamwood’s park district joins thousands of customers reducing upfront solar costs to realize long-term bill savings through ComEd rebates

CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--ComEd today highlighted the growing momentum of customer-owned renewable energy across northern Illinois, announcing that its Distributed Generation (DG) program has exceeded $350 million in rebates and incentives while presenting the Streamwood Park District with more than $94,000 to support its solar installation at the Park Place Family Recreation Center. To date, ComEd has 1.8 GW of distributed generation on its grid.

Established under the Future Energy Jobs Act and later expanded and enhanced by the Climate and Equitable Jobs Act, the DG rebate program helps reduce barriers to clean energy adoption by offsetting the cost of installing solar, wind and battery systems for both community solar projects, which send electricity directly to the power grid for use by many customers, and customer-sited projects, which generate electricity on a home, business, or facility and is used primarily by that customer to reduce their electric bill.

The program has grown significantly since 2019 and issued a record $80 million to customers in 2025. ComEd will surpass that number in 2026, having paid out more than $68 million year-to-date.

Completed in late November 2025, the facility’s rooftop array is expected to generate nearly 435,000 kWh of electricity annually. The Streamwood Park District estimates the system will save more than $50,000 per year, resulting in an anticipated $1 million return on investment over its 20-year lifespan. The park district spent more than $800,000 to install the system and estimates a five-year return on investment thanks to offsets delivered by ComEd’s DG rebate program in combination with additional incentives like the Energy Credit Refund and Renewable Energy Credits (RECs). Together, these programs help make clean energy projects more affordable, delivering long-term operational savings that can be reinvested into other facilities and programs that serve local residents.

In addition to this system, the Park District leases solar panels on other facilities, plans to install solar panels on its future maintenance facility, and is in queue for community solar with the intention of powering all operations across their portfolio with solar in the future.

ComEd offers the DG Rebate to help offset out-of-pocket costs of installing a qualified renewable energy generating system and energy storage that is interconnected to the ComEd grid. A rebate requires the use of a smart inverter, which can communicate with ComEd to automatically support the smart grid when needed.
